OTEYZA is a fashion brand founded in Madrid in 2011 by Paul García de Oteyza and Caterina Pañeda. Winner of the 2019 Spanish National Fashion Award, invited to present its collections at Paris Fashion Week and ambassador of Madrid Capital de Moda, the brand has made a disruptive approach one of the defining features of its work, with a unique ability to turn tradition into avant-garde and reinvent the past.
Now, together with PyD, a company specialising in the selective perfumery and cosmetics sector, OTEYZA has launched its own range of perfumes: OTZ LAB.
Our work consisted of designing a bottle and secondary packaging capable of reflecting the spirit of the brand.
This bottle does not simply contain a perfume; it contains a concept. The solidity of matte black steel, with its brutalist spirit, enters into dialogue with the fragility of glass in a play of opposites that evokes the compositions of Donald Judd or the modular constructions of Sol LeWitt. The glass takes the form of a test tube, referring to the world of the laboratory, experimental research and the technical rigour that define both perfumery and the OTEYZA universe.
On the cap, a simple cylinder crowned by a sphere of colours and textures, which personalises each fragrance, introduces a reference to tradition, to OTEYZA’s more classical dimension. Every proportion has been carefully studied to achieve the harmony and elegance that characterise the brand.
Just as OTEYZA deconstructs classical forms and reinterprets them, this piece redefines the traditional image of perfume packaging.
The boxes incorporate the colour of each fragrance through a graphic composition that refers to Constructivism, a recurring influence in the design of OTEYZA’s garments.
OTZ LAB is a new olfactory architecture born from OTEYZA’s aesthetic and conceptual universe. It proposes a different way of understanding perfumery: through structure, matter and intention.
